Fall Colors

Now that we are into the month of October, one thing we notice is the changing of the leaves from green to their beautiful fall colors. Several thoughts come to mind as I see the colors changing.

First, they are a reminder to me of how God created everything and how, through the laws of nature that He established that the leaves change their color. I am also reminded from the Word of God that God’s invisible attributes are seen in creation. Romans 1:20-21 states: “For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, sp that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” As we look at nature, we can seen, clearly, the invisible attributes of God, unless our hearts have been darkened by Satan, who does not want people to see God.

There are some other things that come to mind as I see the changing colors. Since God’s attributes are seen in creation, even though the look of creation may change, God does not change, in who He is. The essence of God remains the same and that’s one reason we can put our faith and trust in Him, because He does not change who He is to meet the times. Instead, He expects us to change! Another thing that is clear to me from studying the Bible is that while the character and attributes of God do not change, He does change how He deals with mankind, from time to time. He is very clear to outline this in His Word, if we are open to the leading of the Holy Spirit to see it. Finally, did you know that the colors we see in the leaves during the fall are their true colors? this relates to us as believer’s since our lives should look different after we are saved than they did before. When we came to Christ for our salvation by believing the gospel (good news) of grace, God started a change in our lives. His desire for our lives is that we should show our “true colors” and let others see the change He is making in our lives. while we feel it on the inside, God wants us to show it on the outside just like the changing leaves of fall.
